Their name may be refer to just a few seconds but looks like 5 Seconds Of Summer are set for more than 15 minutes of fame.

The Australian band set records on Wednesday when it was revealed their self-titled debut album had topped the Billboard 200 charts.

The pop-punk foursome has been winning teenage girls hearts for the best part of three years, and now that they have finally put out their full length album, they are also winning over their wallets too.

The Sydney boys Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin have sold 259,000 copies of their album - which features singles Amnesia and She Looks So Perfect - since its release on July 22, just beating out soundtrack smash hit Frozen.

According to Billboard, this makes the band the third-largest debut on the chart this year and the highest selling debut album in almost eight years - band Daughtry, sold 304,000 of its first album’s first week in 2006 with American Idol star Chris Daughtry at the helm.

According to Billboard’s Keith Caulfield the band are now the first Australians to ever debut on the chart at No. 1 and only the second to make it to the No. 1 spot this year, following singer Sia’s sixth album 1000 Forms Of Fear.
Just in case that was not enough for the boys - all of whom are 18 besides Ashton who is 20 - their Billboard placement also makes them the second ever group to make it to the top after iconic rockers AC/DC, who had the No. 1 spot in 2008 for their album Black Ice.
